Ludovit Antonio Bari

Maker of Silent Voices

Ludovit Antonio Bari is a Prague-based luthier whose workshop, Bari-Q, has spent decades searching for the moment where sculpture, sound and silence meet on the body of a single instrument.

Where the classical violin obeys a four-hundred-year-old silhouette, Bari unbinds it. Every piece is hand-carved from a different soul of wood — flame maple, spruce, walnut, brass, lacquer — and given a face: eyes, hearts, flames, vines, the bones of an ancient hymn.

Each violin is a portrait of the player it has not yet met. The strings wait. The room waits. And when the bow finally touches them, the silence the maestro carved in is the first note you hear.
